Hi all i picked up a bargain uk bdp150 v1.02 & iv updated it with the region free firmware all working fine but iv noticed i seem to have no netflix or youtube now.is this common or do need activate this some how???Nope, that's a trade-off.Plus you're not getting any of the several tweaks that Pioneer has made for the newer firmware codes.According to the release info of the 1.05 and 1.08 firmware files they also made several performance improvements. No idea if the the difference is noticeable though.
I have a chipped version so perhaps we could do some comparison. How did you make it region free?Well I got some help from folks at avsforum, mostly via this guide:the firmware on the player I received was 1.05, which did not allow me to upgrade to the 4.03 firmware, so I had to downgrade my firmware first, and then follow the guide above. Quite haunting for me as I've never done this before. So I had to flash it twice using USB stick, you can update the firmware in the settings by selecting USB.
Once I got it to 4.03 firmware, I still had to activate the firmware by running the MTKpio program on my pc where I had to enter both MAC and serial numbers of the player (which you can find in the settings), that generates a series of numbers you have to then input into the menu of the player. Once that was done, I can now press 3344 in initial setup and I will get a menu that allows me to change DVD and blu-ray region codes; I put the DVD one standard on '0', the blu-ray can only be put on one setting, so if you need to change it you do need to adjust it in the menu each time.Looking forward to testing out 'Naked Lunch' as my first region A blu-ray, still waiting for it to arrive.

It has a variety of TV shows, movies, and documentaries across an array of genres that help users to watch any kind of video they want.

I picked up one of the Pioneer BDP-150 yesterday for a bedroom system. It's feature packed and a great buy at $150. It has 2 USB ports, coaxial and optical spdif outputs, hdmi that's 3D capable and a LAN connection.
The ability to playback flac files is a bonus.I connected it to my home network and installed the Pioneer control app for iPhone. It works and it allows basic control of the unit through the network in minutes. The GUI is well laid out and easy to read. The supplied remote has quite a few buttons to control the unit, I am not using it as the app offers me enough control.HDMI handshaking problems seem common at these and much higher price point, no problems here though. I tried the unit on both LCD panels and they both responded within a few seconds and allowed 1080p without any issues.A main use of the player was for CD playback. The coax and optical outputs allow me flexibility and options for connecting to my 2 channel DAC. The sound appears ok for a sub $150 player.
I am certain it will mellow out over time. These are priced so well and the units are made in Japan. I think these units will have enough features and performance to keep most viewers and listeners happy.I will connect the player to my dedicated 2 channel setup in the lounge at a later date for a review of sound only. I am curious to hear the difference between a $150 Blu Ray player used as a transport and a $1000 CD player used as a transport.
My father-in Law has one of theseconnected to an 09 Kuro via HDMI.Last week for no reason it just stopped displaying video and no longer displays the idle/ screen saver 'PIONEER' logoit will output all the menu graphics, play and stop on-screen commands, etc and also audio without a problemhave done the usual suspects of changing HDMI cables, using another input, etc. No resultFactory reset performed, no issues with handshaking.we're stumped.just thinking something in the video board has diedany other ideas?
